Obituary for Joy Elaine Rose
Joy Elaine Rose
1935 – 2016

Heaven rejoiced and God welcomed home his daughter, Joy Elaine Rose of Tehachapi, on Friday, April 15, 2016. Her daughter was by her side as she left this life to enter into eternity. Joy, who was 80 at the time of her passing, was born on May 1, 1935, in Cleveland, OH, to parents Ellis M. and Daisy O. (Slagle) Waugaman, both of Pennsylvania.

James Lee Rose and Joy were married on June 11, 1954, and they moved to California the following year. Acton, CA is where she raised her children, with a multitude of animals, before retiring to Tehachapi, CA, in 1991. James and Joy were married 37 years before his passing on February 1, 1992.

Joy loved children. She studied childhood development in college and became a substitute teacher for the early grades. Her love of children was only surpassed by her love of her family and the Lord Jesus. She spent over 50 years in women's and children's ministries. While living in Granada Hills, CA, she spent 35 years as the Children's Ministry Leader at Grace Community Church. When she moved to Tehachapi, she found her new spiritual home at Mountain Bible Church. She spent the rest of her years teaching and sharing God's Word. She also loved to play the organ.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, James; her stepson, James Spiker; her sister, Virginia Middleton; and her brother, Peter Waugaman. Left to mourn her passing are her daughters, Dawn and Chris Smith of Cypress, CA, and Heather and Michael White of Tehachapi; grandchildren, Felicia and Alissa Goetz, Dylan White, and Sarah Bantilan; and sisters, Anna Keith and Ila Colletta.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Joy on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at Mountain Bible Church, located on the corner of Maple St. and Mountain View. Dr. Marvin Slifer, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. A reception will follow the service.

Wood Family Funeral Service has been entrusted with her care.
