She is survived by her tow sons Greg (Deb) Wessel of Yates City and Gary (Dode) Wessel of Clayton; four grandchildren Brett A. (wife Paige) Wessel of Yates City, Trea . (husband Jason) Wessel-Barrett, Seth Wessel, and Dirk Wessel; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Richard and William Hixon, and one sister Marjorie Logue
Mrs. Wessel graduated from Beardstown High School in the class of 1947. Betty was a baptized and confirmed member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was devoted wife and homemaker whom cherished spending her time raising her sons. She spent many nights at the baseball field earning her the title of "baseball mom" not only to her own boys but several others. In her free time Betty enjoyed knitting, sewing and all types of puzzles. Most of all, her family was her pride and joy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 18, 2016 at Colwell Memorial Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Beardstown. The family will meet with friends one hour prior to the services at the memorial home.
