Harvey J. Arkens, 91, joined his wife in heaven on a Sunday morning, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility.

Harvey was born on the family farm, son of William and Pauline (Miller) Arkens.

He attended school in Wilson and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Harvey enlisted on Jan. 25, 1944, and served during the Battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged on Nov. 6, 1945. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart Medal. Harvey participated in the Honor Flight in 2012. Following his honorable discharge from the Army,

Harvey worked on the family farm and at Harnischfeger Corporation until their closure.

On July 7, 1946, Harvey Arkens married Bernadette Arkens in Camp Douglas, Wis. They were blessed with nearly 70 years of marriage.

Harvey was a history and politic buff, always enjoying a good political debate. He loved hunting and farming. He was a very proud member of the Bark River American Legion Rheaume-Knauf Post 438.

Harvey was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.

Among survivors include: two daughters, Katherine (Frederick) Kimpel, and Debra (Brian) Droscha; son- in-law, Robert Haara ; eight grandchildren, George, Raymond (Leah) and Roberta Haara, Tanya (Richard) Sorenson, Harvey Kimpel, Jason, Sarah and Rebekah Davenport; and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Arkens and Robert Arkens.

Harvey was preceded in death by: his wife Bernadette(Bunny) by a week, parents; daughter, Sheila Haara in 2011; and brothers, Joe and Richard; sister, Mary; and Bunny's brother, Edgar Barrett.

Visitation at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church with Bark River American Legion Rheaume-Knauf Post 438 military rites. The Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Darryl Pepin officiating. Entombment in Gardens of Rest Mausoleum.
