Jack Duncan, 87, passed away peacefully on April 12th. He was born in Tampa, FL, though he lived in Sarasota for 83 years.


Jack was a proud veteran of the Marine Corps having served in the epic battle of the Chosin Reservoir and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Upon returning to civilian life, his career spanned 38 years with General Telephone and Electric (GTE) during at which time he and his wife owned and operated the Sunset Lodge Apartments in Sarasota, Duncans Deli and The Deli Donut Shop in Bradenton. Upon retirement, he and his wife of 62 years traveled extensively.


He was a member of the Chosin Few, The Marine Corps League, The Salvation Army, The DAV, Masonic Lodge #147, and the American Legion.


Survivors include his wife, Vaughn, sons; Hal of Galena Park, TX, and Cal (wife Tammy) of Sarasota, Florida, a granddaughter, Megan (husband David), 7 grandsons; Andy, Alex, Chris, Gabe, Israel, Derek, and Tyler, 7 great grandchildren, and his sister, Carolyn Ann Cardin of Atlanta, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his son, Gregg.


Jack will be so greatly missed by his loved ones and forever in our hearts.


Funeral services will be at Sarasota National Cemetery on Friday, April 22nd at 10:00 a.m.
