Mike Weeden Stafford Obituary
Walter Clarence Stafford Weeden was born to William and Amelia Stafford in Decatur, Ill., on January 10, 1900. He was baptized as a child in a river service. He came with his parents to Goodland, From there the family moved to a farm near Hale, CO. Walter was the fifth child in a family of eight. Due to the illness of his mother, he went to live at the Lloyd Weeden home. The farm was his life where he spent his time gardening and caring for the animals. He was a willing and industrious worker. He loved to read and had read the Bible from beginning to end many times. Due to ill health, he entered the Good Samaritan Village on April 27, 1978. As his health improved, he planted the village garden. He was proud of his garden and like to show it to all his visitors. He attended church services at the Village. "Little Mike" as he was called at the Village will be missed by his many friends and one special friend, Mabel Confer.
Preceding Mike in death were his parents, three brothers, and one sister. Surviving are two sisters, Hazel Wiggins of St. Francis, and Eva Doerfer of Penrose, CO., and a brother Ralph Stafford of Borger, TX.
In his adopted family, Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Vinnie Weeden and two brothers.
Those surviving are Mildred Gorlinsky, Goodland; Audrey Mooney, Denver, CO. Mike made his home for many years with Gaylen and his family who also cared for his needs at the Village.
His life is summarized by this poem by Marie Holzwarth:
Happiness was a garden to Mike,
Magolds and Ainnias were what he liked.
Vegetables to give away to eat...
His pumpkin crop could not be beat.
In all of God's heaven there must be a place
For Mike to plant some small "space."[williams1969.FTW]
