Melanie Jeanette Cook passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

She was born on June 19, 1964 in Aurora, Colorado to Ret. MSgt James and Margaret Cook of Niceville, FL. She has three sons and one daughter, Med Ret. TSgt Kenneth Charfauros Jr., Rapid City, S.D., Daniel Charfauros, Newport, VA. Brian Charfauros, Mary Esther, FL. and Med Ret. SSgt Ashley Charfauros, Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Amaya, Aubrey, Daniel, Julian Charfauros and Makayla Spurbeck. She has three brothers and two sisters, Gary Cook, Houston, TX. Ret. SMSgt Mark (Barbara) Cook , Mascoutah, IL., Angela (Ret. TSgt Thomas) Palmer, Mascoutah, IL., Lt. Col Todd (Tara) Cook, Colorado Springs, CO. and Tanya (Eugene) Boan, Genoseo, IL. She also has two nieces and nine nephews.

She adopted, in her heart, Rene and Caitlin Cavazos and their children Aedan, Audie and Avery as part of her family. She was adopted by many as “Mom”, taking in dozens of kids without question and guided them in the right direction. Melanie worked for the US Postal Service for 17 years. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray and Audrey Cook, Dexter, LA., Cyril and Edith Boorman, St. Faiths, England and sister-in-law Estelle Cook. She was a loving Daughter, Mother, Grandmother and Sister and will truly be missed.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Wednesday, April 20th, 2016, from 11:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the McLaughlin Mortuary, Fort Walton Beach, Fl. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with burial in Beal Memorial Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations in Melanie’s name to the Lupus Foundation.
