A son of the late Walter W. and Mary Smith Palmer, he was a World War I Veteran and was retired from Norfolk & Western Railway. He was a member of The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Goldie Curtis Ward Palmer; four step-sons, Truman and Paul Ward of Mentor, Thomas Ward of East Lake, and Gary Ward of Detroit, MI; seven step-daughters,Mrs. Avanelle Nichols of Mason, Mrs. Kathleen Seeley of West Portsmouth, Mrs. Mary Fraley of Portsmouth, Mrs. Shirley Wheeler of Minford, Mrs. Opal Keaton of Left Hand, WV, Mrs. Doris Flowers of Toledo and Mrs. Sue Parker of Ecorse, MI; two brothers, Daniel of Salem, VA and Ernest of Staffordsville, VA; and a sister, Melvina Castle of Ypsilanti, MI.

He was also predeceased by two brothers, Cover J. Palmer and Robert Jackson Palmer.

Rev. Robert Barth and Rev. James Smith will perform the funeral services with burial to be in Floral Hills [Sunset Memorial Burial Park].
