Five Miners Killed in an Accident Near Butte, Mon.

BUTTE, Mon., Aug. 19 -
Five men are reported killed and others injured by a falling cage in the St. Lawrence mine near the city. The extent of the accident and loss of life will not be known until morning, owing to obstructions in the shaft. The accident was caused by the breaking of the cable reel, letting the cage drop with lightning speed to the bottom of the shaft, a distance of 1,500 feet, carrying down Foreman Ryan, John Manning, John Campbell and two other men.
