Gary D. Descher was a brave member of the Chicago Fire Dept. (CFD), Badge #2068, assigned to Truck 38, located at 4426 N. Kedzie. He was tragically killed at the age of 36, in a bowling alley fire, Box #5133, a 5-11, with 2 Specials at 2718 N. Spaulding. Actual footage of this fire can be seen on YouTube. As he was fighting the fire on the roof of the structure, it gave way, trapping Gary in the inferno below for 4 hours until his brothers could reach him. He was taken out alive, but succumbed to his injuries at Belmont Hospital.
At the time of his passing, Gary left behind wife, Maria and four children, Dennis, 14, Keri, 9, Betti, 3, and Holli, 6 months old.
