Gertrud Huls was born in Epe, Westphalia Germany, the daughter of Johann Gerhard Wilhelm Huls and Elizabeth Gervens. She married 1. Theodore Heinrich Winksmeyer, in 1839 at St Agatha Catholic Church in Gronau, Westphalia Germany. They were the parents of a son, Bernard Winksmeyer. Gertrud married 2. Johann Herman Temberge on 24 January 1842 at St Agatha Catholic Church in Gronau. They were the parents of Angela Elizabeth, they emigrated from Germany and arrived at Port of New York 25 Dec 1846 aboard the ship Isabella. Gertrude married 3. Bernard Herman Bræcker on 25 May 1848, they were the parents of five children known, Maria Elizabeth (Francis Krift), Anna Catharina (Johann Kerkmann), Johann Bernard, Elizabeth Adeleid (Wilhelm Fredrich Althoff) and Henry Wilhelm (Anna Gertrdue Kerkmann). Gertrud and Bernard settled in Goodale Twp, Lake County, Illinois, which later became a part of McHenry County. Where they lived is known as Pistakee Bay, McHenry County today, a short distance from Johnsburg, where all of their children were born. ~
