Born May 19, 1929, in Taneytown, Md., he was the son of the late Norris F. and Helen Ridinger Sell.

He was a 1946 graduate of Taneytown High School and a 1951 graduate of American Institute of Baking, in Chicago.

He was a bakery manager at wholesale shops, including Glade Valley Bakery in Walkersville. He retired in 1988 from International Multifoods in Minneapolis after working as a baker-technician for 27 years. He was named a certified master baker in 1987.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in the Pacific Theater at the close of World War II.

He was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Walkersville.

He was a member of American Legion Post 282, Woodsboro, Md.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Stambaugh Sell; one daughter, S. Diane Fauble of Walkersville; one son, Edward G. Sell II of Frederick, Md.; three brothers, retired Col. William R. Sell of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., Eugene Sell and James Sell, both of Taneytown; one granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Lowman; and one brother, Donald Sell.
