Vera R. (Costa) Hunt, 83, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and loved ones, Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital, in New Bedford. She was the wife of 64 years, of the late James D. Hunt.

Born and raised in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John J. and Mary J. (McCormack) Costa, she lived most of her life in the city. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, in New Bedford.

Vera graduated from New Bedford High School and Cape Cod Community College and was the Dietary Supervisor for 40 years at the Sacred Heart Home in New Bedford until her retirement in 2009.

She enjoyed playing the piano, watching the Wheel of Fortune and her dog Vega, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family which was most important to her.

She is survived by three children, James S. Hunt, Madeline Perry and her husband John and Catherine Perry all of New Bedford; two sister in laws, Barbara Hunt of Fairhaven and Maureen Cavanaugh of New Bedford; five grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister in law of the late Robert Hunt.

Calling hours in the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main Street, Fairhaven. Cremation will follow and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 283 Mill St., New Bedford. Interment will be private
