Maxine met the love of her life, Donald Bryant, in 1957 on a blind date with her best friend. By the third date, they knew it was true love. Within the year, the two of them were married and continued to celebrate their life together for the past 59 years.
Maxine enjoyed playing cards, planting flowers, cooking, dancing, watching I Love Lucy, Golden Girls, and Andy Griffith, and spending time outdoors. She had a special place in her heart for her animals, especially her two schnauzers, Lilly and Lyla.
She had a long career with Kenworth Mid-Iowa and retired in 2009 after 37 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Edna Speed (Rhea), brother, Donald Speed and grandson, Vernon (Joey) Bennett III.
Those left to remember and honor her beautiful memory are her husband, Donald; brother, Larry (Georgia) Speed; sister, Esther Edwards; sons, Chuck (Donna) and Donnie (Linda); and daughters, Rhonda and Candace. Maxine also celebrated life by enjoying her 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
The family will receive friends and family from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016 at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines. A celebration of her life will be held 10 a.m. Monday at McLarens Chapel with graveside services immediately following at Resthaven Cemetery. Following the graveside service the family will host a luncheon at Bianchis Hilltop.
