BOWLING GREEN, KY. - Lillie Daphne Voncannon Smith, 83, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004. She was a homemaker and member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Hampton. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, W. J. Smith Sr., and her parents, Graham and Flora Cox Voncannon. Survivors include her son, W. J. Smith Jr. of Bowling Green, Ky.; daughter, Brenda Whiddon of Caldwell, Texas; three grandsons, Richard Shaw of Hampton and Jeffery A. Smith and Jay Michael Smith, both of Bowling Green, Ky.; her granddaughter, Cynthia Lynn Smith of Bowling Green, Ky.; and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at Bethany United Methodist Church, officiated by Dr. Charles K. Root. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 6340 Center Drive, York Bldg., Suite 129, Norfolk, VA 23502.
