Randy Lee Hunt, 72 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at his home in Holdrege following a courageous battle with cancer. Randy was born October 13, 1943, at Orleans, Nebraska, the eldest of two children born to Lee and Bernice (Eckwall) Hunt. He began his primary education at the Roosevelt Elementary in Holdrege before the family moved to Beaver City, where Randy graduated from Beaver City High School with the class of 1961.

Following his education, Randy worked at Heidloff Grain at Hollinger and for the Beaver City Public Schools. He then returned to Holdrege, where he was employed by Yankee Farm Supply and Kansas-Nebraska Energy. Randy then enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1964. In the late 1960’s, he began working for the National Guard full time, and served his country until his honorable discharge and retirement in 1994 with the rank of E7, following 30 years of service. Randy then began driving truck for Whitney Sand & Gravel, Riteway Milk, and Grand Island Express until his retirement.

On June 11, 1967 he was united in marriage to Judy Brewster in Loomis, Nebraska and to this union two children were born: a daughter, Tawnia and a son, Brian.

Randy was a member of the Eagles, the American Legion, and a past member of the Funk Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, and was an avid reader. But, genealogy was always his passion. Randy was preceded in death by his parents.

He leaves to celebrate his life; his daughter, Tawnia Lee and her husband, David of Hebron, Nebraska; son, Brian Hunt of Lexington, Nebraska; sister, Shana Hunt and her wife, Karen Richards both of Holdrege; two grandchildren: Rachel Lee of Hebron and Ryan Lee of Lincoln, Nebraska; one great-grandson, Derek Hazen of Hebron; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
