Doris Cecile Pugh Holland passed away, Thursday, April 8, 2016 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, of natural causes, shortly before her 92nd birthday.

She was born on April 8, 1924 in Cotton Valley, Louisiana to Byron D. and Jewelle E. McCoy Pugh. There she attended the Methodist Church, graduated high school, and married Thomas E. Holland of Tullos, Louisiana. They moved to Baton Rouge with their daughter, Nancy Pugh Holland in the mid 1940's. Very soon thereafter, she was employed by the Louisiana Department of Labor where she worked until retiring as a supervisor. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge. Doris was a talented craftsperson, expert at various forms of needlework, knitting, and weaving. Throughout her life, she enjoyed time with family, traveling with friends, hosting and playing in a variety of bridge and card clubs.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Denton Smith of Georgia; granddaughter Amy H. Smith; nieces and nephews, Libby Jones, Ben and Laurie Jones and family, Frank and Debbie Jones and family, Joel Jones, Doris Elizabeth Pugh and family, John and Lisa Pugh and son, Ronald Pugh, Nina Jean Boyd and family, and David Batson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Holland; father and mother Byron and Jewelle Pugh; sister, Carleen Jones, brother, John Pugh; and nephew, Byron D. Jones.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home Downtown, 825 Government St., from 12 noon until a funeral service at 2 PM. Interment will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

She was a dear and loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Her generosity, sweet spirit, and kindness, will be greatly missed by both family and friends.
