"Henry Jay Carpenter died at the home of Eugene V. Palmer last week Friday, October 26, 1934, following a long illness. While on a visit in Gilbertsville in June, 1933, he was stricken with cerebral apoplexy and for several months was cared for at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Filer. About a year ago he was removed to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, where he has since been taken care of. He was seventy-three years of age and was born in the town of Butternuts, the son of Ira E. and Adelaide (Coon) Carpenter. He was a machinist by trade, having followed that occupation for fifty years. The funeral was held from the Palmer residence at half past one o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. W. J. Graig officiating. The burial was in the cemetery at Schenevus." [South New Berlin Bee (South New Berlin, NY), Nov. 9, 1934, Page 4]
