The exact birth date was disputed. Whatever, she celebrated it on Aug. 22nd. Her father was Edward Francis Grady, a painter born in Tarrytown NY, and her mother Catherine (Kate) Hastings, born in Manchester, Massachusetts. She had a younger sister Mabel and a younger brother Joseph. She married Calvin Joseph LaFlamme on Feb. 8, 1917 in Lackawanna NY. They had five daughters and a son together. She once had a severe traffic accident, being struck by an automobile on Dec. 5, 1946. But she suffered much more from the loss of her son Calvin Jr., age 23, as a consequence of a fatal motorcycle accident on April 16th, 1952. After separating from Calvin, Lillian lived with her daughters and their families, moving from one family of offspring to the next as their time and means permitted. Lillian was a good cook, a kind grandmother, and lived a modest life.
