STONE, FLOYD ARTHUR "STONEY" age 82 passed away Saturday November 12, 2011 at NHC Ft. Sanders. Floyd served honorably in the Korean War for four years following high school. He then earned a degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University. Upon graduation from N.C. State, he accepted a position with TVA as a draftsman. After twenty-seven years with TVA, he took early retirement, ending his career at TVA as a project manager. He then worked for ten years for the firm of Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon and retired from there due to health problems. While a member at Central Baptist Church of Bearden, Floyd served on various committees including Finance, Building and Grounds, and Personnel. He was also a "Deacon for Life." He taught in the Youth Sunday School Department and was a member of the Adult Choir until his illness forced him to stop. Floyd was an accomplished tennis player, earning a national ranking in the Age 55 Seniors age group. When he could no longer play tennis, he joined Green Meadow Country Club where he learned the game of golf and met and made numerous friends. He also belonged to the East Tennessee Senior Golf Association. Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Peggy, son Mark and wife Kathy, Greenville, South Carolina; son Dennis and wife Holly, Duluth, Georgia; grandchildren Alan, Sara, Mary, Connor and Carson Stone; brother-in-law Sam Buckner and wife Dinah; brother-in-law Shelby Buckner; several nieces and nephews, and special friend and caregiver, Rosie Thomas. Services will be held at 7 pm Monday, November 14, 2011 at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Dr. Wade Bibb and Rev. Joyce Wyatt officiating. Graveside service private. Honorary pallbearers are: Howard Blum, Reese Patterson, Chet Borge, Ray Fisher, Jack French, Mack Bingham, Gus Simerly, Charlie Gabbard, Clayton Greene, Wally Bornemann and members of Adult 8 B Sunday School class. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Homeless Children International, c/o Central Baptist Church of Bearden, 6300 Deane Hill Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. Online condolences at www.rosemortuary.com
