Beech Grove resident.
Passed away at Franciscan St. Francis Hospice House.

Son of Herbert and Ruth Hayford Akers.
Married Helen Garmon Thompson May 26, 1945 at Indianapolis. She survives.
Also surviving are children Michael James (Mary) and Stephen Thompson (Martha) Akers and Kathryn Rae (Richard) Nagel; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by grandson Joshua Akers and younger brother Robert.

He attended Butler University.

Served four years during World War II in the United States Marine Corp, including the battle at Iwo Jima.

He spent nearly all of his career in various responsibilities at IBM in Indianapolis.

He was an avid sports fan (Cubs, Reds, Butler basketball) and loved to listen to baseball games on the radio and read his Sporting News. He was a good bowler and very much enjoyed his participation in the Beech Grove Lions Club, including being its president for several years.

Long-time member of the Beech Grove United Methodist Church.

Celebration of life service 2pm Sunday, April 17 at Little & Sons Funeral Home, Beech Grove officiated by his son Michael. Visitation noon until time of service.

Memorial donations to the Lions Club of Beech Grove.
