Well Known Resident of Leavenworth County Dies at His Home in Lansing Yesterday

John Griffin Isham, one of the best known citizens of Leavenworth county, died yesterday morning at 11:40 o'clock at his home in Lansing. He had been a resident of Lansing since 1865. Death was due to old age. He was a prominent Mason, and had been a member of the Nine Mile Lodge No. 49 at Lansing since 1866. Funeral arrangements have not been made yet.

Mr. Isham was well known in Leavenworth, as well as in his hometown. He was postmaster of Lansing during the Cleveland administration, and served in local offices in Delaware Township for many years.

For the past seven years the health of Mr. Isham has been weakening due to his advanced age. It was not until the last year, however, that his condition became serious. Since the time no hopes have been held for his recovery. He suffered from heart trouble recently.

John G. Isham was born in Maxville, in Washington County, Kentucky, December 6, 1833. He married Martha Deer in Kentucky in 1856. His wife died May 3, 1909. In 1865 the couple came to Kansas and bought a farm near Basehor, in Leavenworth county. They lived there until 1879, when Mr. Isham retired from active work and came to Lansing. This has been his home ever since.

Mr. Isham was a member of the Lansing school board for eight years. He was active in the First Baptist church. In Masonic circles Mr. Isham was known throughout the county. He joined the Masons in 1860. Six years later he was made a member of Nine Mile Lodge No. 49 of Lansing, to which branch he has belonged ever since. The funeral services will be conducted by the Masonic order, both at the house and at the grave. Interment will in the family lot at Mount Muncie cemetery. Funeral arrangements will be made later.

Two daughters and three sons survive Mr. Isham. The daughters are, Mrs. H.L Brown of Leavenworth and Mrs. A.T. Lamm of Lansing. The sons are John G. Isham of San Francisco, D.W. Isham of Lansing and R.L. Isham of Chadron, Neb.
