Myrtle Ardella Casto, of Cross Lanes, passed away at Cabell Health Care Center in Culloden on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. She was born March 23, 1917 in Rockcastle to the late Okey H. and Elva Battrell Casto, and celebrated her 99th birthday on March 23 of this year. She was preceded in death by her husband, Denver Clay Casto; son, Daniel Dale Casto; two sisters, Mildred Parsons and E. Marie Casto; and four brothers, Arthur, Bernard, Dale and Milford Casto.

Ardella was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Nitro, and was very active in #2 Circle. She graduated from Ripley High School and worked at O.J. Morrison's in Charleston, was a gift wrapper at Stone and Thomas Department Store and volunteered at Thomas Memorial Hospital in South Charleston. Denver and Ardella were Kanawha County Conservation Landowner of the year in 1966. They were the first to receive this award made by the Capitol (Kanawha County) Soil Conservation District.

Surviving are her son, David C. Casto (Wanda) of Cross Lanes; daughter, Sharon Gill of South Charleston; daughter-in-law, Nancy Young Casto, wife of deceased son, Daniel, of Cross Lanes; five grandchildren, Lisa Turley (Chris) of Charleston, Adam Gill (Candy) of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Amy (Greg) Young of Charles Town, Jon Casto (Jennifer) of Katy, Texas, and Richard Casto (Tina) of Durham, N.C.; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

Special thanks go to Cabell Health Care Staff for all of their care during the past couple of years. Alice Panell, her roommate, was a wonderful friend who showed Ardella much love and attention during the past years. Additional thanks go to the staff at the Whistle Lane Unit, who extended much personal attention to both Ardella and family during her final days.

A tribute to the life of Ardella will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Emma Chapel on Route 34.

Friends may visit two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Ardella Casto to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 20th Street, Nitro, WV 25143.
