=================================
John's Simpson family came from the village of 'St. John's in Dalry' (which is the full name of the town- now sometimes just called Dalry), in Dalry Parish, in (at the time), Kudcurkbrightshire (now part of Dumfries-Galloway).

The village is sited on a bend of the Water of Ken, about three miles (5 km) from the northern edge of Loch Ken.

Dumfries-Galloway now comprises the old shire of Dumfries, plus the Galloway part which now comprises the old Stewartry of Kudcurkbright and the old shire of Galloway.

Kells (Town & Parish), is also in what used to be the old Stewartry of Kirkcudbrightshire, which bordered Dumfriesshire.
Kells is just across the River Ken, from Dalry.

Margaret and husband John 1 Simpson filed their church letters of transfer for emigration to America, for the entire family of ten, at the Town of Kells in 1819.

(Margaret's fuller bio is here, since I have been unable to convince the memorial holder to add it to Margaret's own memorial- Rebecca Dodds)

Margaret was born in Annandale (shortened to Annan).
Annan was a Town and a Parish, in what used to be Dumfriesshire but is now part of the Dumfries-Galloway Council Area.
Dumfries-Galloway now comprises the old shire of Dumfries, and the Galloway part comprises the old Stewartry of Kudcurkbright plus the old shire of Galloway.

Margaret's brother Robert Johnstone (#161206531) was born in 1769 in Knocknolling, Kells Parish, Kudcurkbrightshire (now in Dumphries-Galloway). It appears that the Johnstone family had moved about 30 miles SE of Knocknalling, to Annan, by the time Margaret was born 8 years later.

Robert stayed in the Knocknalling, Kells, Dalry area for the birth of most of his children, moving to Buss (can't find on a map), in Kells Parish, for the birth of the last three.

Margaret & John1 Simpson were living in the village of St. John's in Dalry in Kirkcudbrightshire for the birth of their first son John2 Simpson, but moved to about 45 miles NE to Durisdeer or nearby Carronbridge, Dumfriesshire (now part of Dumfries-Galloway) for the birth of at least children- Jane, James & Robert. The rest of their children only have Dumfriesshire as their birthplace.

Margaret and husband John 1 Simpson came to America from Scotland in 1819, with their 8 children and John's brother George Simpson and possibly another brother of John's.

After immigrating, John 1 went into NY City 'on business' and was never heard of again, leaving Margaret and their 8 young children on their own.

===================================
In 1832 Margaret's son-John2 Simpson bought a 32 grave, 20x40 ft plot at the Washington Street Cemetery in Geneva.
Margaret Johnstone-Simpson is buried there.
