ELKHART, IN — Margaret H. Hawks, 92, of Elkhart, died Monday, April 11, 2016 at East Lake Nursing and Rehab Center.

Margaret was born March 21, 1924, in Elkhart, to Alexander A. and Clara M. (Matis) Nagy.

On Dec. 19, 1941, she married Elmer “Bud” Hawks at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elkhart. He preceded her in death April 15, 2011.

Margaret is survived by a daughter, Sandra Kilmer of Elkhart; daughter-in-law Linda Hawks of Elkhart; grandchildren Melissa (Chris) Whitehead of West Lafayette, Christina (Glen) Kauffman of Goshen, Jason of Elkhart and Jody (Jason) Hawkins of Elkhart; and five great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; son Richard D. Hawks; son-in-law Ron Kilmer; sisters Elizabeth Zinn, Mary Whitmer, Julianna Whalen and Anna Michalski; and brothers Alexander, Anthony, William and Stephen.

Margaret was a graduate of Elkhart High School. During their younger years, she enjoyed camping with Bud.

Margaret worked at Taylor Products and retired from Target in 2002. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Friends called from 10 a.m. until the service at noon Saturday, April 16, at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home. The Rev. Kevin Bauman officiated. Burial followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to East Lake Nursing Home for the loving care they gave Margaret.
