Gettie Pratt Lipscomb, 70, of Franklin and formerly of the Mount Zion community, died of an apparent heart attack shortly after being admitted to Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va.

Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.

Mrs. Lipscomb was born May 15, 1922, at Harman, and was a daughter of the late Amos Lee and Lura Hedrick Pennington.

On August 20, 1937, at Oakland, Md., she married Walter S. Pratt, who preceded her in death June 17, 1969.

On July 23, 1971, at Oakland, she married William Lipscomb, who survives in Franklin.

Also surviving are four sons, William Pratt of Franklin, Roger Pratt of Broadway, Alvin Pratt of Lost City and Lowell Pratt, stationed at Norfolk, Va., with U.S. Navy; two stepsons, Harry and Delmer Pratt, both of Moorefield; six daughters, Patricia White, Hendricks, Marian Anderson, Sugar Grove, Carolyn June Frers, Albertson, N.C., Beatrice Johnson and Dorothy Lipscomb, both of St. George, and Judy Moats, Franklin; four stepdaughters, Ollie Smith, Romney, Edith Warner, Elsie Bosley and Lila Mae Hines, Moorefield; one brother, Charles Pennington, Moundsville; three half brothers, Rodney, Randy and Jimmy Pennington; one sister, Eva Riggleman White, Romney; four half sisters, Mary, Maxine, Janice and Marie, and 35 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Walter Lee Pratt and Samuel Joseph Pratt; one daughter, Shirley Temple Davis; three stepsons, Alfred, Jessie and Robert Pratt; three stepdaughters, Clara Smith, Edna Riggleman and Fannie Pratt; three brothers, James, Franklin and Woodrow Pennington, and four sisters, Elizabeth, Ruby, Mona and Carrie.

Mrs. Lipscomb had attended the schools of Randolph Co., had worked for the Parsons Nursery and the New Frontier Restaurant at Franklin for several years.

She was a member of the Brandywine United Methodist Church at Brandywine.

Friends will be received at the Jeffrey A. Barb Funeral Home in Parsons from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Rev. Eli Hostetler officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Mt. Zion.
