AMSTERDAM - Norman "Speed" Phillips, 90, of Pattersonville Road, died Monday at home after a long illness.

Born and educated in Amsterdam, Mr. Phillips was a lifelong area resident.

He was self-employed for many years, operating his own trucking business. He was also an equipment operator at the Cady Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1986.

Mr. Phillips was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Krohn Phillips, whom he married Feb. 21, 1941; a daughter, Donna Panczner of Amsterdam; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the DeStefano Funeral Home, Route 5-S.

Calling hours are from noon until the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Woestina Cemetery in Rotterdam Junction.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam or the Florida Volunteer Fire Department, both in care of the funeral home.
