Murfreesboro, TN

James O. "Jim" Baker, age 77, of Murfreesboro died Monday, April 11, 2016. Mr. Baker was a native of Donelson, TN and was the son of the late Oliver Otis and Thelma T. Charlton Baker.

Funeral services will be at 11:00am Thursday at North Boulevard Church of Christ. Julian Goodpaster and Chris Jones will officiate. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville. Visitation will be from 3:00pm until 8:00pm Wednesday at North Boulevard Church of Christ.

Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mariluise Sharpe Baker, who died in 2014. He is survived by daughter, Constance Lynn "Connie" Baker Holbrook and her husband Bobby Holbrook; and son, Mark Lee Baker and his wife Michelle Harris Baker all of Murfreesboro; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Ashley Holbrook, Jennifer Lynn Holbrook, and Rachel Marie Baker; and devoted friend and caregiver, Leatrice "L.T." Edmondson.

Mr. Baker was a graduate of Donelson High School and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University. He began working at Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Cooperative in 1960. In 1979, he became assistant general manager and was appointed President of MTEMC in 1980 where he remained until his retirement in 2003. He represented Tennessee on the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Board for many years, serving as secretary-treasurer, vice-president, and president of NRECA from 1997-98. He also served as Chairman of the Rutherford County Industrial Development Board and the Rutherford County Tax Equalization Board. He and his wife had been members of North Boulevard Church of Christ since 1960. Mr. Baker was a member of the Rutherford County Sportsmen's Club and the Lion's Club for many years. He was known for his love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing with friends and cooking for many charity events through the years.

Active pallbearers will be Chuck Clark, Jimmy Fuller, Mike Harris, Craig Lynch, Harris Florida, Cliff McClendon, Johnny Omahundro, John B. Woodfin. Honorary pallbearers will be James Oda Snell, Randall Eden, P.O. Florida, Randy Ricketts, Sumner Bouldin, Gary Pounders, Ernest Burgess, Employees of MTEMC, Men of Hooper Supply, and members of the Sportsmen's Club.

Memorials may be made to the Lascassas/Milton Lion's Club in memory of Mr. Baker.
