Lucy was born in Ridgefield, Connecticut on December 25, 1827. Her parents are the following couple:

1. Timothy WHEELER. Born before 1790 in Connecticut of English descent.
2. Sarah Keeler (or Keller). Born 1792 in Connecticut of Scottish descent.

Tim and Sarah's forbears fought in the Revolutionary War. They themselves were in the midst of the fighting during the War of 1812. They were married in April of 1814. Their children were as follows:

1. John Marlin Wheeler. Born October 24, 1816.
2. Mary Ann Wheeler. Later Mrs. David LeFlay. Then Mrs. Orison Gray. Born November 8, 1821.
3. Iry (Ira) Bradley Wheeler . Born in 1825/26.
4. Lucy Amy Wheeler. Later Mrs. Azro Densmore. Born December 25, 1827.

All the children were born in Fairfield County, Connecticut. In 1838, the Wheelers moved to Lysander Township in Onondaga County, New York. Tim died shortly thereafter (between the 1840 census and the 1850 census). Family records state both 1840 and 1842. Sarah died before 1860.

Iry then moved to Wisconsin to engage in the lumber business. He later brought Lucy to Wisconsin for company and as housekeeper. There Lucy met her brother's friend and business partner, Azro Densmore. Azro had been born on February 20, 1823 in Chelsea, Vermont of German descent. Lucy and Azro were married in 1853. They lived along the Chippewa River near Lake Pepin. Their children were as follows:

1. Jason Fletcher "Denny" Densmore. Born September 5, 1854.
2. Roey Carline (or Caroline) Densmore. Born October 30, 1857.
3. Sarah Jane Densmore. Later Mrs. Harry Jessup. Born July 11, 1861.

Denny was born in Wisconsin. Caroline was born near Omaha, Nebraska. Jane was born near Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Azro may have died in Iowa in the mid-1860s. Roey died at age 12 of appendicitis. By that time, the family had moved to McDonald County, Missouri.

Lucy and her children, Denny and Jane, next moved to San Diego, California. By the early 1880s, they had moved to Tucson, Arizona. There Jane married Harry Clifford Garwood Jessup, the Constable of Tubac, Arizona. They married in February of 1883. When Geronimo began terrorizing Tubac and surrounding towns in 1885, the family moved to Oregon.

After a brief stay in Oregon, the family moved to Indian Valley in Southern Monterey County, California. Harry and Jane's children were:

1. Claribelle Maude Jessup (later Renoud). Born December 12, 1884.
2. Lucy Amy Jessup. Later Mrs. I.T. Curtis. Born February 4, 1887.
3. Edgar Briggs Jessup. Born March 29, 1889.

Maude was born in Arizona. The other two children were born in Monterey County.

In late 1885 or early 1886, Lucy, her daughter and son-in-law Harry all took out homesteads or pre-emptions in the area (160 acre parcels made available by the government to pioneering families). Harry, died of consumption in 1989 and the family fell on hard times with Lucy's daughter Jane reduced to working in the fields "like a man". Lucy then wrote to her bachelor son, Denny, who was mining in Arizona and asked him to join the family in Monterey County.

An inveterate pioneer, Lucy wanted to move on again, but the rest of the family refused this time. Because of Denny, the family prospered in Indian Valley -- and gradually assembled a large ranch of several thousand acres.

Lucy died at home in Indian Valley (Monterey County) at age 89 on March 26, 1917 of "aortic insufficiency". Her body is buried in the San Miguel District Cemetery.

The burials of Lucy's siblings are as follows:

1. John Marlin Wheeler. Unknown cemetery, but probably near Lysander, New York. Died in November of 1849.
2. Ira Bradley Wheeler. Memorial # 23086074
3. Mary Ann Wheeler Leflay Gray. Memorial # 22848643
