Following an 8 year battle with prostate cancer, Jim went home to be with his Lord Tuesday, June 22, 2009. Memorial Celebration will be at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Bryan on Thursday, June 25 ,2009. Visitation is from 6:30 p.m. until time of service. Jim or "Outlaw" as he was affectionately called was born in Albuquerque, N. M. His early years were spent in East Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. He drove a cattle truck, built houses, arranged flowers, rode bulls & saddle broncs, trained, showed & shod horses and blacksmithed at the Houston race track. His love of horses at a very young age led to training & showing quarter horses throughout the U.S. & Canada. And, he worked cattle for various ranchers in & around the Brazos Valley. He became an avid golfer in his late 50's shortly after being diagnosed with cancer and always said that golf was his avenue for coping with his illness 'cause when he was on the golf course, he only thought about golf & enjoying the day with his golfing buddies. He volunteered with B/CS Special Olympics Golf program & helped organize and support various golf benefits & fund raisers. He was a volunteer Ambassador at the Bryan Municipal Golf Course where he was frequently seen accompanied by his assistant & daily companion, his miniature Pomeranian, "Miss Prissy". Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Kelsie & James Anderson and Jessie Outlaw; son Tyler James Rapson & brother Michael Outlaw. Jim is survived by his son James Cartwright and wife Serena of Wimberly; grandson Austin Kelly Cartwright of Marble Falls; sisters Sidney Outlaw of College Station and Bonnie Lytton & husband Major of Allen, Tx.; brothers Spencer Anderson & wife Deborah of Marshall, Tx.; Patrick Outlaw of Houston; nieces Alix, Niki & Keli Lytton; nephews Brian Anderson, Ryan Outlaw and Ray Stanford, III; stepmoms Wanda Outlaw Bernard of Chandler, Az. and Marian Anderson of Carthage, TX. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to B/CS Special Olympics Golf Program, St. Joseph Cancer Center, & Brazos Lung Assoc. or your preferred charity. The family wishes to express special appreciation to Drs. Terry Jenkins, Tom Weber, Mack Blanton, Alan Young, Kelly Lobb, and nurses at St. Joseph Hospital and Rehab Center. Thank you for your compassion, and tender care for Jim and our family and for always giving Jim a sense of dignity in all circumstances.
