Willard was listed as a merchant at Port Rowan, born in England, 52 with his wife Amelia E. 36 and children James R. 11, Joseph C. 8, Catharine S. 5 and Amelia 2, all born in Canada West. All were Wesleyan Methodist. They lived in a 1-1/2 storey frame house.5
In the 1871 Census of Walsingham Township Div. 1 p. 8, Amelia Willard was listed widowed 43 with her children James R. 20, Joseph C. 17, Catharine S. 14 and Annade 11. All were born in Ontario, English and Wesleyan Methodist.
Amelia Willard acquired 50 acres in the northernmost part of William Backhouse’s farm, Lot 23, Concession 1, Walsingham Township. She was named on the farm on the 1877 Historical Atlas map.6
In the 1881 Census of Walsingham Township, Amelia E. Willard was listed as a widow, born in Ontario 53, French, Canada Methodist. She was living with her son J. R. Willard.7
In the 1891 Census of South Walsingham Township East p. 22, Amelia Willard was listed widowed 64, Methodist. Her parents were reported born in England. She was living with her daughter Catherine and her husband Matthew Newman.8
