Gordon Gilbert Ainsworth, 91, of Bonduel, passed away, Saturday, April 9, 2016, due to complications after surgery for a broken hip.
Gordon was born on Friday, February 13, 1925, to the late Henry & Pauline (DeSwarte) Ainsworth. Gordon grew up on the Ainsworth family farm in the Town of Waukechon. He started his education in the Dallman School. After graduating from Shawano High School he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge he attended UW Madison earning a BS in Agricultural Economics on the GI Bill. On June 14, 1952 Gordon was united in marriage to Marjorie Peterman. Together they raised six strong and independent daughters on a dairy farm near Frazer Corners.
In 1962, Gordon was recognized as Shawano County Outstanding Young Farmer. Gordon served his community in many ways including: Frazer Corners School Board, Board of Directors of Production Credit Association, Maple Lane and Good Shepherd Health Care Centers. He also served on the Shawano County Board, was a founding member of the Shawano DHIA and was a member of the Shawano County Farm Bureau and American Legion Post #217 Bonduel. While serving on the council at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, as President for six years and Treasurer for twenty years, he drew the plans for the narthex addition complete enough to be granted state approval.
After retiring from farming in 1987, Gordon and Margie moved to the new home they built in Bonduel; they were proud to have used trees from their farm for the lumber. While retired he became a founding member of the Bonduel Archives and spent countless hours renovating a home into a legal public building to house the Archives.
Gordon enjoyed woodworking, bowling, traveling, and playing cards with friends, and seldom missed his Friday night fish fry. Gordon was always up for a good debate and was never afraid to tell it like it was. He will be remembered as a storyteller with a quick wit. He was a huge Badger fan and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gordon is survived by: his loving wife of 63 years Margie Ainsworth; daughters, Barb (Charlie) McKeefry, Deb (Brian) Schneider, Sandy Swietlik, Terri (Kevin) Ferfecki, Diane (Gary) Przybylski; grand and great grandchildren, Kristin (Clint), Brooklyn & Bailey Whitehorse, Greg McKeefry, Aaron, Mady & Emma, Brianna, Andrea (Jordan) and Branden (Maureen) Schneider, Elizabeth (Matt), Sydney & Brynley Kunstman, Becky (Brad), Brady, Beau & Blaire Chriske, Ben (Stacey) Ainsworth, Jessica (Matteo) Reginato, Johnny, Jackie (Kyle), and Karly (Eric) Swietlik, Lindsay and Taylor Przybylski. He is further survived by: siblings, Ken, GA, Phyllis Ward, OH, Crystal (Herbert) Sandmire, Green Bay, Pauline (Bob) Buchner, MI, John (Margie), Shawano, Patricia (Tim) McGuire, CA and Peggy Bastar, Shawano; brothers-in-law, Darwin Hill and Bob Koehler; and sister-in-law Betty Ainsworth, Shawano; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: a daughter, Connie Swiecichowski; a brother, Vernon; brothers-in-law John Bastar and Dan Ward; as well as sisters-in-law, Janice Hill, Shirley Koehler and Audrey Ainsworth.
Gordon was an honest, hard working man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He always taught his girls that there was reward in an honest day's work. "Dad, now your work is done, you have earned your reward. We will miss you," Gordon's girls.
A funeral service for Gordon will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in the Township of Lessor, N1731 County Road S, Pulaski. Rev. Mike Dismer will be officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Bonduel American Legion Post #217. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Bonduel Archives, or the Ainsworth Memorial Children's collection at the Shawano Library.
