In 1966, he married Glenna Linder Miller and welcomed a son, Eric into the family. In 1967, his daughter, Patricia was born and their family was complete. In 1967, Boyd also began farming and operated a dairy farm south of Peterson. In 1972, he returned to trucking and worked as a semi-driver for a number of years. In 1980, he began working at the First Cooperative Association where he worked for 22 years until his retirement in November 2002.
Boyd enjoyed the outdoors and grew up hunting and fishing with his brothers. His love of the outdoors continued into his adult years and was shared with his children, Pat and Eric. He enjoyed motorcycles, snowmobiles, four-wheelers, muscle cars, and was an avid NASCAR fan. In his young adult years, he raced his cars at the Humboldt and Sioux City drag races and won many trophies while drag-racing. Later he shared his love of motorcycles and four-wheelers with his son, and he and Eric enjoyed dirt-biking together. As hobbies, Boyd enjoyed woodworking, cutting wood for his wood stoves, and gardening. Boyd became quite an enthusiastic gardener and was proud of his asparagus patch, tomatoes, raspberry bushes and fruit trees. Pat became an able assistant to his gardening efforts. Boyd even became quite proficient at canning his own produce.
Boyd was preceded in death by his mother, Christine in 1987 and father, Keith in 2008. He is survived by his son, Eric (Michele) McGee of Shaver Lake, California; daughter, Pat McGee of Spencer, IA; and grandson, Granite, as well as brothers: Vince (Janice) of Peterson, Don (Barb) of Peterson, Ron (Janice) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and sister, Jan (Brent) Pingel of Peterson. He will also be missed by aunts and uncles, cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
