April 17, 1916 ~ February 22, 2016 (age 99)

FROSTBURG- Gerald Elwood Reeves,99, of Frostburg passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born in Westernport on April 17, 1916, he was the son of the late Marion F. Reeves and Ruth Z. (Spriggs) Reeves.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lydia Reeves, a brother Donald F. Reeves, and two sisters, Betty L. Mullan and Jean Hagenbach.
Mr. Reeves served his country during WWII. He was a retired U.S. Army Captain and was awarded two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars, and two Purple Hearts.
Gerald had worked as an insurance agent with Metropolitan Life. He served as Captain in the original National Guard in Frostburg. He was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church, Mountain Lodge 99 A.F. & A. M., a member of the Frostburg Rotary for 40 years, Past President of Maplehurst Country Club, and a member of the Frostburg American Legion. He also served two terms on the Frostburg City Council.

He is survived by his daughter and son in law COL. Jack and Barbara Shafferman of Parkville, MO; his granddaughter Jennifer Buhrman and husband Gerome; great granddaughters Payton, Mia, and Emmerson, his gandson, Jeffrey Shafferman, and wife Paige; sister Peggy Newlin and husband James of Westernport,.
In accordance with Gerald's wishes his body will be cremated.

Family and friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Friday, February 26, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service following at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jennifer Webber officiating. Mountain Lodge 99 A.F. & A.M. will hold a memorial service on Friday at 1:30 p.m. American Legion Farrady Post 24 will accord military honors at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be directed to Frostburg United Methodist Church, 48 W. Main Street, Frostburg, MD 21532.
