Eugene "Geno" Swain of Russellville, Ark., and formerly of West Street in Old Saybrook, died Thursday in Arkansas. He was 76.
Mr. Swain was born in Windsor Locks. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a former member of the Old Saybrook Congregational Church. He owned and operated the Sunoco and former Texaco gasoline stations on Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, for several years before moving to Arkansas in 1977 where he continued as an automotive mechanic for his son at Swain's Service Center in Russelville until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Swain; two sons, Richard Swain of Florida and Eugene Swain of Dover, Ark.; his daughter, Jeannette Swain of East Haddam; his three sisters, Helen Apel and Ruby Gagne, both of Old Saybrook, and Doris Gowac of Clinton; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His daughter, Donna Jean Ramcke, died earlier.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Old Saybrook Congregational Church, Main Street in Old Saybrook, with burial following in Riverside Cemetery. Calling hours will be at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street, Centerbrook, on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
