On April 12, 2016 Mary Magdalene Burnette, 83, of Jayess, MS stepped into the presence of her Savior.

Mrs. Burnette was born on September 12, 1932 in Faulkner County, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Wallace & Cordell Harrell.

She married Carl Elwin Burnette, the love of her life on Nov. 22, 1950, and was a faithful and committed wife for 64 years. She was also a very loving mother, grandmother, & great-grandmother. She worked endlessly for the kingdom of God. She was a faithful member of New Bethel Jesus Name Church for 50 years. She sang on radio broadcast, cooked church dinners, and directed school choir as long as her health permitted.

Mrs. Burnette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elwin Burnette who took good care of her for many years until his passing in 2016; her parents, Wallace & Cordell Harrell; her firstborn son, Rev. Major Burnette; one granddaughter, Michelle Burnette Evans; one great-grandson, Blake Evans; one great-granddaughter, Kerrington Burnette; and her brother Terry Harrell of Jacksonville, AR.

Survivors include one son, Dwight (Nancy) Burnette of Brandon, MS; one daughter, Pam (Denby) Wallace of Jayess, MS; twelve grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren, one brother, Wayne (Ann) Harrell of AR, three sisters, Jean Wilkins, and Dean (Jay) Williamson, of Cabot, AR and Loretta (Robbie) Burnette of Jayess, MS. and one loved daughter-in-law, Linda Burnette Bennett of Jayess, MS, two loving sisters-in-law, Debbie Harrell of Jacksonville, AR, and Ella Burnette of Tylertown, MS.

Pallbearers were Neil, Major, and Dwayne Burnette, LaRon Wallace, Jeremy Dooley, and Chris Daniels.

Honorary pallbearers were grandsons and great grandsons.

Visitation Wednesday at New Bethel Jesus Name Church, 88 New Bethel Road, Jayess, MS from 5PM until services at 1PM Thursday. Burial was in the church cemetery with Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit in charge of arrangements.
