Benjamin Copeland "Ben" Vaughn

Athens - Benjamin Copeland Vaughn, beloved husband, daddy and granddaddy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his family, on October 27, 2021.

Ben was born in 1928 to Frank and Lily Vaughn. He left this earth three days after his 93rd birthday. He met and married his wife, Ethel Hallford Vaughn in June of 1948. She preceded him in death on November 30, 2016. In 1965, Ben and Ethel moved their family to Athens to join Ethel's sister and brother-in-law in the restaurant business. They worked side by side for forty plus years, first as co-owners then as sole owners of the Mayflower Restaurant located in downtown Athens. Even in his retirement years, Ben could be found at the Mayflower enjoying time with his former customers. Many nights he could be found listening to old time country music; his favorite instrument was the dobro.

Ben served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Vaughn; and granddaughter, Victoria Vaughn Farmer.

Ben is survived by two sons, Ricky (Lisa) Vaughn and Randy (Debbie) Vaughn; three grandchildren, Nicole (Christopher) Broome, Richard (Jackie) Vaughn and Katherine (Spencer) Crane; thirteen great-grandchildren, Harrison, Addie Kate, McKenna, Judah and MeiLyn Broome; Hannah and Evan Vaughn; Ellie, Copeland, Spencer Jr. and Lillilyn Crane; Cohen and Emerson Farmer; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Monday, November 1, at 10:00 a.m., at Evergreen Memorial Park, with Rev. Crist Camden officiating.

Flowers are welcome or a donation in Ben's memory can be made to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901; https://www.dementiasociety.org; or the Lung Cancer Research Foundation, 155 East 55th St., Suite 6E, New York, NY 10022; https://www.lungcancerresearchfoundation.org.
