Rodney H. Hawkins, Sr., 89, a resident of Kansasville, Wis., died Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Aurora Medical Center in Burlington Wis. Rodney was born on July 23, 1926, in Kansasville to Harry and Sadie (Terpstra) Hawkins.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After the service, he came back to his job at Western Publishing where he worked as a color matcher until his retirement in 1988. Fishing, golfing and pistol shooting were past times that Rodney enjoyed. He had many friends at the Knights of Columbus 697, the Friends of Seniors group and the American Legion Post 310. Rodney belonged to St. Edward's Catholic Church and served for many years as a hospital volunteer.

Surviving him are his sons Rodney Hawkins, Jr. and Wilbur Hawkins of Kansasville and Blair (Diana) Hawkins of Racine; and his daughters Cyndi Wentland of Utah and Rebecca Hawkins of Union Grove. Rodney is further survived by his grandchildren, Cheryl, Rodney III, Angie, Allen and Kristy; and by his great grandchildren, John Jr., Ryan, Kayley, Rodney IV, Paige, Kaitlyn, Skyler, Keenan, Maddie and Reese; a niece Suzanne; a nephew Gerald; and many cousins.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; his son Jay Hawkins; his grandson Daniel Wentland; his sister Yvonne Mortier; his son-in-law Donald Wentland; and by his longtime companion Henrietta "Terry" Wolgat.

Cemetery services will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove, Wis. A time to greet family will follow at Noon at the Gamblers II Tavern, located at the intersection of HWY 11 and HWY 75. In lieu of flowers, memorials to American Legion Post #310 would be appreciated. The family wishes to thank Ann, Nancy and Holly from 3rd Wing of Burlington Rehab and Care for their excellent care.
