Harold R. Harold R. Gamble, 96, of Toledo, Ohio, died August 12, 2010, at The Colonnades Retirement Community in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was a retired DeVilbiss Company air compressor engineer with 3 patents on his designs. One of the air compressors was featured in a 2005 art exhibition entitled "Streamlined Design", which toured 7 museums in France, Canada, and the United States.

Born in Fayette, Ohio, on November 11, 1913, Harold was the son of rural mail carrier Burd V. Gamble and Carrie Phillips Gamble. After earning his engineering degree at the University of Toledo, he married Vera Borton, also of Fayette, and the couple settled in Toledo where Mrs. Gamble taught at DeVeaux School. Music was an important part of their lives; they often attended concerts at the Art Museum Peristyle and the Toledo Zoo Amphitheater summer band performances. They were active members of Calvary United Methodist Church, where Harold sang tenor solos and was financial secretary for 27 years. After retirement in 1975, the Gambles enjoyed travel and wintered on Anna Maria Island, Florida.

Harold's wife, Vera, preceded him in death. He is survived by their 3 daughters: Nancy (Dan) Pressley, Martha (Don) Winston, and Linda (Greg) Heuer, as well as 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Harold and Vera will be held on Saturday, October 16, at 3 p.m. at Fayette Christian Church, 207 W. Main Street, Fayette, Ohio, with interment following at Pleasant View Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Fayette Christian Church.
