He grew up in the Haven's Chapel area north of Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School in 1972. He was active as a youth in 4-H, Haven's Baseball and Softball, St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a 4-H. Leader. He later attended Central Community College in Hastings.
Mick worked at Kearney Body Shop then returned to help take care of the family farm, after his fathers death. In 2006 he began working and was currently employed for Heartland Motor Sports in Kearney.
He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney and enjoyed being a mechanic and enjoyed spending time with family and especially nieces and nephews.
