Glenellyn Smith was born in Ottawa, Kansas to Glenn and Sarah Hogan. Her family moved to Oklahoma, where she graduated from Norman High school. Then, while attending Bethany Nazarene College, she met and married Elmer T. Smith on Feb. 9, 1946. A homemaker and mother to five, she worked many years in the Putnam City Baptist Church nursery, and later cooked for the Putnam City Central school cafeteria. Later, she cooked for the Wesley United Methodist Church in OKC and then for her home church, Putnam City Baptist. Glenellyn was a 40 year member of the OHCE, Cardinal Club, where she made lifetime friends. When PCBC moved north, she became an active member of 1st Baptist Church of Bethany. Glenellyn loved Jesus, her church, people, animals and life. When she was widowed in 1999, she moved from her home in Warr Acres to a smaller home in Bethany. In spite of a stroke in 2006 and her loss of mobility, she enjoyed telling jokes at the Warr Acres Nursing Center where she was a resident for 6 years. Glenellyn is survived by: brothers, Ernest Hogan and wife, Pat, of Moore, OK, Richard and wife, Faye, Tyler, TX; sister, Geraldine Engleman and husband, Mark, Texcoco, Mexico; sisters-in-law, Gladys Ramsey, OKC and Dean Smith, Mangum, OK; brother-in-law, Charles Wilson, of Wellston, OK; children, Alan and June Smith, Garland, TX, Milton and Jerri Smith, OKC, Merie and Randy Noell, Warr Acres, Gregory Smith, Warr Acres, Kendell Smith, Guthrie; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; plus many loved nieces and nephews.
Viewing with family is from 2:00pm till 4:00pm Sunday. Glenellyn’s service is 2:00pm Monday, April 30 at Mercer-Adams Chapel. Glenellyn’s family owes a debt of gratitude to caregivers at Warr Acres Nursing Center and to the E.R. staff at Deaconess and Integris Baptist.
