Son of Sally (Meyers) and Peter Berkeley. He graduated from Juniata College in 1881 and from Lafayette College in 1885 with M.E. and PhD. degrees. He taught latin and philosophy at Susquehanna College in 1886-87. He studied law and was admitted to the Bradford, PA Bar in 1888. On 31 Oct 1889 he married Miss Emma Beachley, the daughter of Urias Beachley. No children. From book, "History of Bedford and Somerset Counties, PA".
