Roy L. Cowles, 67, of 1405 Albia Road died at 12:35 p.m. April 27 at home.

He was born July 9, 1910, in Des Moines to Charles and Elsie Turnbull Cowles and lived in Ottumwa since 1946. He married Mildred M. Bailey on May 2, 1937, in Davis County. He retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works in 1971 and later owned and operated R & M Ceramics at 1429 Albia Road.

Survivors: his wife; his daughter, Shirley Toomey of Ottumwa; three grandchildren; brothers Charles, Frank and Orville of Des Moines, Clyde of Atlanta, Mo., the Rev. Harry of Hastings, Neb., the Rev. Fred of Leavenworth, Kan., and Willis of Ottumwa; and sisters Marie Magle of Des Moines and Mae Glosser of Blakesburg.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Alton Chiles of Faith Baptist Church officiating. Burial: Shaul Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Don Dooley, Bernard Tremmel, Earl Greenfield, Paul Crouse, Bill Leonard and Wilbert Johnson.

The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.

The family will be at the funeral chapel from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
