Thomas "Ole Tom" Akers, 65, of Charleston, passed away April 8, 2016 after a long illness.

He was born June 10, 1950 in Charleston to the late C.E. "Cad" and Erma Holiday Akers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Ann, and a brother, Winton Akers.

Tom was a proud lineman of over 40-plus years as an employee of Bell Atlantic, C&P and Verizon Telephone Companies, and he was a past president and coach for Midwestern Little League.

He was a loving, caring husband, who took care of his wife through sickness and health, and a very caring father.

Tom is survived y his loving family: daughter, Katie Akers of Charleston; son, Michael Edward Akers at home; sisters, Marilyn (Ron) Walker of Charleston and Ellen (Dave) Armstrong of Miami, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mary Frances "Cookie" Akers of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Elk Funeral Home, 2001 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston. Private burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
