Obituary for Leo Hall

Leo Roy "Chub" Hall was born February 18, 1925 in rural Wellman, Iowa, the son of Ora and Bertha (Wade) Hall. He attended Wellman High School. Chub served in the United States Army during WWII with the 1138th Combat Engineers Company in the Pacific Theater and the Army of Occupation in Japan. On May 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Martha England in rural Wellman. They made their home in Wellman. Chub started as a mechanic at Wade Ford in 1946, and became owner of the dealership in 1964. Chub retired in 2000 after 54 years at the dealership. Chub and Martha moved to Iowa City in 2012. Chub was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Polton American Legion, and former member of the Iowa Auto Dealers Association, Wellman Community Club and Wellman Volunteer Fire Department. Chub died on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City at the age of 91 years.
Chub is survived by his wife Martha of Iowa City; a son Tom (Jeanette) Hall of Chesterfield, Missouri; a daughter Pam (Tom) Moore of Iowa City; 6 grandchildren; Barbara Hall, Susan (Michael) Donovan, Doug Hall, Matthew (Marissa) Moore, Sarah Moore and Suzanne Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter Cathy Jane Hall, a brother Cleo (Bus) Hall, and 4 sisters, Mina Debler, Eloise Swink, Joanne Hall and Virginia Hall.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Burial will be in the Champion Hill Cemetery in rural Wellman. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time on Tuesday at the Powell Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for Asbury United Methodist Church and the Mid Prairie Community School District Foundation.
