Bob was born at home in Montello on November 26, 1937 and graduated from Montello High School as valedictorian in 1955. He went on to serve his country as a member of the United States Navy as a SeaBee. Bob returned home and married Carol Krentz on October 23, 1965 and together they were blessed with three children. Carol preceded Bob in death on November 18, 2001.
Bob was a builder by trade; he owned and operated Schlaefer Custom Builders in Montello for over 45 years. He was a devout member of the Catholic Faith and was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, he and his warm personality and sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Bob leaves behind his three children: Matthew of Montello, Mark (Sherry) of Green Bay and Jane Schlaefer of North Fond du Lac as well as four grandchildren: Darren, Austen, Douglas and Claire. He is also survived by his brother, Bernard (Lea) of Wauwatosa and other extended family members.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Mary (Ullrich), wife, Carol and siblings: Rev. Richard Schlaefer, Rev. Joseph “Padre” Schlaefer, Raymond “Duke” Schlaefer, Dolores Schlaefer, Genevieve Schlaefer, Sister Ann Schlaefer, Marie Schlaefer and Imelda (Robert) Collins.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the church. Father Tim Renz will preside and burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, town of Montello. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred for a memorial that will be established in Robert’s name.
