Richard Maddox, 85, of Grand Island, formerly of Palmer, died Saturday, April 9, 2016, at his home in Grand Island.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church in St. Paul. Pastor Daniel Bear will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul with military honors by the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post No. 119 of St. Paul. Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Maddox was born Feb. 18, 1931, in Palmer to Elmer and Martha (Keller) Maddox.

He grew up on a farm in the Gage Valley area between Palmer and St. Paul.

Richard attended St. Paul Schools, where he graduated from St. Paul High School in 1949. He then attended the Christian College in Central City.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952 and served for two years, receiving his discharge in 1954.

Richard was united in marriage to Beverly Rosenberry on Sept. 2, 1955, in Shelby.

The couple began farming and raising cattle north of St. Paul. He also did land leveling for a time.

In 1971 the couple moved to the Gage Valley area east of St. Paul, where he continued to farm and raise cattle for many years.

Richard enjoyed playing golf, fishing and attending his grandkids school and sporting events. The couple spent winters in the Padre Island, Texas, area and Richard and Beverly liked to travel in many areas of the United States and Europe.

Richard and Beverly celebrated their 60th anniversary in September 2015.

They moved to Grand Island in 2011, where they have lived since.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in St. Paul where he had served as a Deacon of the church.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly, of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Sue Maddox of Owasso, Okla., and Dwayne and Lori Maddox of St. Paul; a daughter and son-in-law, RaNae and Bud Edwards of Grand Island; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Hindman, Stacie Smith, Angela Dibbert, Brian Smith, and Justin, Derek and Tanner Maddox; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Marlene and Delbert Wiegert of St. Libory, Betty and Daryl Holt of Scotia, Shirley and Edward Boltz of Dannebrog, Ramona Swanson of Minden and Sharon and Paul Oakeson Jr. of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Gwen Main.
