WEBB, HUME Hume Webb, 74, of Salem, Ohio, died Friday, Aug. 23, 1996, at his residence. He was born in Otto, a son of the late French L. and Lora Nichols Webb. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was assistant police chief for Fairfield Township, a former Salem Township police chief for 24 years, head of security at Quaker City Drag Strip for the past 30 years, and former owner of four gasoline stations in Salem and one in Lisbon, Ohio. He was a former captain of Salem Police Auxiliary, past president of Ohio Peace Officers Association of Columbiana County, Columbiana County Police Chiefs Association, former member of Leetonia Ruritans, member of Mt. Nebo Grange, and member of Country Ramblers and West Virginia Boys, music groups that traveled the area and played in nursing homes and other music events. He was a member of Church of Christ of Hanoverton. Surviving are his wife of 50 years. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vonnie Nutter; and three brothers, Rev. Hobart Webb, Harry Webb and Junior Webb. Services were held Sunday at Arbaugh Pearce Greenisen Funeral Home. Burial was in Clover Cemetery, Spencer.
