Catherine Arvilla Talmage was born on April 20, 1863 at her parents townhouse in Brooklyn, New York, as the third child and second daughter of Tunis VanPelt Talmage and Madeleine VanNest DeForest. Catherine married the New York shipping businessman; William Hurlbut Force on May 1, 1889 at Trinity Church in Manhattan, New York. They had two daughters; Katherine Emmons (born March 12, 1891) and Madeleine Talmage (born June 19, 1893). William Force died on October 6, 1917 and Katherine died thirteen years later on November 28, 1930 in her townhouse in Manhattan, New York at the age of sixty-seven.
