James “Randy” Kooms, 67, of Poseyville, Indiana, formerly of Kincaid, Palmer and Assumption, Ill., died Saturday, October 8, 2011, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

He was born on July 2, 1944, in Taylorville, the son of William Kooms and Lavada (Stewart) McGarvey. He married Rita R. Smith in 1966 but they were later divorced in 1977. He retired from GSI in 2006. He graduated from Kincaid High School in 1963. He belonged to SangChris Bass Club and the Nokomis Sportsman Club. He served in the United States Air Force from 1963 until 1967, serving in Vietnam in 1965. He was a wonderful father with an infectious smile. He had an amazing sense of humor. He loved fishing and gardening, although he was always better in the garden. He loved making homemade pizzas. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He loved life and never took anything for granted. His glass was always “full” no matter how tough life got. He will be sadly missed by his daughters and grandchildren but he will never be forgotten.

Surviving are his daughters Anita (Greg) Clark of Morrisonville, Tammy Ginger of Pana and Crystal Kooms of Springfield; grandchildren: Steven and Luke Rever, St. Jospeh, MO, Matt Rever, Dongducheon, South Korea, Zach Rever of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Tim Rever, Kylie and Ruger Clark of Morrisonville and MacKenzie Ginger of Pana. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Kooms and Lavada and Manus McGarvey.

Cremation with burial will be held at a later date with Alexander Funeral Home- West Chapel in Evansville, Indiana in charge of arrangements.
