He was a member of the First Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the Gifts Discernment Committee. Kelly was a co-leader of N.E. Indiana Perspective on World Christian Coverage. He attended Hartford Center School before graduating in the first South Adams Class of 1967. He was employed at Almco Steel Products, Bluffton as a welding-manufacturing engineer. Kelly also substitute taught at South Adams Schools and was a veteran serving in U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam Era. Kelly enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, cooking, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren known as "Pancake Grandpa".
Survivors include his wife, Sharon, daughter, Jennifer(Harry)Wheeler Ellingwood of Crawfordsville, In, sons; Matthew Wheeler of Berne and Benjamin(Betty)Wheeler of Ord, NE., sisters; Nancy(Don)Schooley of Plainfield, IN, Carol(Don)Engle of Bluffton, Kay Wheeler of Sylva, N.C., 2 grandchildren, Allison and Carter Wheeler.
Preceding in death are his parents.
Funeral services are Tuesday, April 12 at 10:30 am at the First Mennonite Church with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Visitation also Monday from 2 to 8 pm at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne. Officiating is Pastor Jerry A. Flueckiger and Pastor Jeff Linthicum. Burial is in the MRE Cemetery, Berne with military rites by Berne Post #468.
